Established nearly 190 years ago we remain loyal to our mission to provide applied higher education, cutting edge research, strategic business engagement and an excellent student experience. Today we have 22,000 students, our graduate employment at 96% (Destination of Leavers of Higher Education survey 2015), we made the largest and highest quality research assessment submission to the REF 2014, and have exciting £100m investment plans. This university is also leading economic growth and is at the heart of working with the professions and the community to meet the needs of our region. The University prides itself on the achievements of our staff and students and former students voted Wolverhampton as being the friendliest University in the West Midlands. As one of the regions’ biggest employers and with your wellbeing and welfare in mind, we support our staff by offering a package of attractive terms, conditions and benefits which include;
We operate an incremental grade structure for the majority of our staff. This means you will be eligible to receive an annual increment (subject to satisfactory performance) until you reach the maximum salary for your grade. We are also proud to be an accredited living wage employer.
The minimum annual leave entitlement starts at 29 days inclusive of the eight standard UK bank holidays, (pro rata if you work part-time) and rises depending on staff group and length of service. In addition to bank holidays, extra concessionary days are also provided each year (a minimum of four) for extended University closure around some UK public/holidays.
We understand the need for a good work-life balance. We therefore support job share and flexible working hours where applicable.
Our defined benefit pension schemes are a real asset to your peace of mind. Depending on the job you’re appointed to, you will be automatically enrolled into either the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS), or remain in the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) if you are a current member.
Childcare, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and pay
Depending on your length of service we offer maternity and adoption pay, above statutory levels. We have an onsite nursery which has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and to help with the cost of your childcare, we also run a childcare voucher scheme.
Travel and parking
There is free car parking available at all the University campuses. We also operate a free inter-site bus service to help staff travel between campuses where necessary.

We really do offer excellent facilities. In May 2015 we announced a £250m investment generation plan which has resulted in the flagship Lord Swraj Paul Building housing the University Business School and the state-of-the-art Rosalind Franklin Building serving students, staff and the wider community in furthering the advancement of science. We're developing the former Springfield Brewery site in Wolverhampton into a national centre for excellence for construction and the built environment. This super campus will be home to the West Midlands Construction University Technical College, as well as our own School of Architecture and the Built Environment, delivering an unbeatable skills pathway for construction education and training. Aready completed, are the redevelopment of The George hotel into a student gateway, the creation of a new Research Hub, two new Student Centres and an outdoor University Sports Zone. Our Telford Innovation Campus is home to the e-Innovation Centre as well as the Business and Technology Centre, and Walsall boasts a multi-million pound sports centre - used as an offical training base for the 2012 Olympics - as well as The Performance Hub and new teaching buildings. Other developments such as the Digital Campus Programme are already in the pipeline and will ensure the University's facilities match its ambitions for its staff and students.
Finally we understand the need to keep developing our staff not only to meet the needs of their current roles but also to support career development. We offer a wide range of organisational development opportunities to support staff throughout their time at the university. Find out more here
